sizing for medium?

hi everyone! i've written a longer post about this on my blog but i'm making the medium size. my chest measurement is 37" so this size should work the best for me. i went through all the old posts and as i understand it i should do 8 repeats of parts A&B for a correct chest measurement. but i'm really worried about the arm holes being too big. i had this problem with the somewhat cowl where the chest measurement was fine but the arm holes were huge (i have skinny arms). HEJ, you did an awesome job with all of the sizing/math info, thanks! (edit: concerning my inability to READ, i'm such a dunce! i read "backwards loop cast on" in the post HEJ did way back on may 3rd and then saw the picture but totally missed the explanation of how the alternative cast on looks so much better. and i'm sure it does. backwards loop cast on does look rather wonky. my apologies!)

so i'm wondering what everyone is doing who made the size M? if you are a 37"/38" bust size, did you do more of parts A&B? or parts C&D? a mixture of the two? did you do short-row shaping instead? i'm considering short-rows. i did them in the glampyre camisole and liked the way they looked. help! your advice would be most appreciated! i've finished 6 repeats of parts A&B and it's time for me to make a decision.

Gleek, I think if you go back and look more closely at HEJ's post about the cast on, you'll see that while she does talk about the Backwards Loop Cast-on, she goes on to suggest that an alternative might be the German Cast-on from Montse Stanley. The diagram is for that, rather than the Backwards Loop. I haven't had a chance to try the German yet, but I may have to add it to my repertoire.

I'm making the Medium size and my measurements are roughly the same as yours. I added another AA-BB repeat to give it a little more room. Unfortunately, I'm afflicted with NOT-skinny arms so I'm more concerned with the arm holes potentially being too small. I've not yet gotten to the end of the CC/DD repeats, so I'm not sure yet how it will work out.

Keep us posted!

i think that i'm going to do another A&B repeat and then go on to C&D. half way through C&D i'll be sure to try it on and see how the sizing is going.

Hey! I'm really behind in reading these as my internet is DOWN. SAD. I haven't quite made it to bind off the sleeves, but I agree the sleeves could end up too big with the changes I suggested.

I am going to put the sleeves on waste yarn and see what happens, doing the pattern as written. At that point, if too small, I'll either add more C+D if the sleeves are okay, or work me some short rows.

What do you think of this plan?

I knitted the Medium in Cotton Fleece and I measure 37". I didn't make any alterations except for some hip increases and I got a good fit. I would try it on as often as needed to be sure you're liking the way it fits you.

thanks everyone! yeah, i'm going to knit the 11 repeats of C&D and then put it on waste yarn and see how it fits. if the sleeves fit fine, then i'll probably divide then and add short rows if the bust is too small.

stay tuned! i should reach this point over the weekend.
